This painting was originally from a series of sketches I did of squirrels for my sister. While drawing this character, I recalled my childhood pet hamster, and how ugly rodent teeth are. And what better way to show off those long, yellowing dental beauties, than with a big smirking grin. I wanted to compound the unpleasantness of that smile by putting this squirrel on a blind date. Adding in the tackiness of ripping a flower out of the planter as a gift for his date, made him a real winner.
